Androscoggin ARES Needs YOU!

Happy 4th of July!

Enjoy celebrating Independence Day and make the decision to become part of what has made the USA resilient through whatever gets thrown our way.

Community Service

Regardless of if you have your amateur radio license or not, Androscoggin County ARES needs you! We can help you get licensed if that is what you want, or you can help in a variety of other ways to help your community prepare and act for times of disaster in or around Androscoggin County.

Communications is essential during emergencies, and some disasters reach or exceed the limit of normal communications systems. That’s where auxiliary radio services like Amateur Radio can provide responders with the assurance that they can communicate when and where needed.

Register Now, not later

In order to assist during times of need, volunteers must be registered with a served agency, in our case the Androscoggin Emergency Management Agency (ACEMA). Once registered, training and exercises can be provided to ensure you are ready to help safely and effectively.

Amateur Radio or Other?!?

If you are already a licensed amateur radio operator then there are a variety of options available for you to assist based on capabilities and experience.

Not licensed but want to be? There are classes and testing available online and in many cases in person. People from all backgrounds are licensed operators and willing to help you gain the knowledge needed.

Interested in helping, but not in getting licensed? A nationwide program called CERT helps train volunteers to ensure their safety and understanding of how emergency operations work. There is a place for you in communications!

GMRS, FRS, CB? Yes, we could use your help also. Gone are the days where only amateur radio is used for emergency communications, thus the term Auxiliary Communications. Incorporating a diverse range of abilities only helps to provide a controlled and reliable flow of information from communities to government agencies.
